  • sow outside in spring after danger of frost

Where to start and how to sow?

  • Transplant (recommended) - Sow indoors 4 weeks before planting out. Cover seeds. A heat mat will help maintain an accurate temperature. Lower temperatures will result in slower germination: 5-7 days at 70-75°F (21-24°C).
  • Direct seed outside - Sow 1/4" deep. Thin plants to about 10" apart.

  • At planting, blend a balanced fertilizer containing equal parts nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium into the soil.
  • Following planting, apply a monthly fertilizer rich in phosphorus over nitrogen to stimulate fresh blooms in zinnias.
