Turtle Ceramic Indoor Plant Pot For Succulents

$4.95

Colors: Green

The Turtle is a glazed ceramic succulent planter shaped like a turtle, in a high-gloss finish that follows its rounded contours. The silhouette is clean, the shell details are simple, and the glassy surface wipes clean.

There is no drainage hole, so it works best as a cover pot for a standard plastic nursery liner, which keeps the desk dry. It holds a plant on its back and asks nothing further. You didn't come here for a nature documentary or a lecture on Darwin. You came for a turtle with a plant on its back, and it's unbothered by whatever you put there.

We Scrapped the Darwin Angle

We had a whole plan for the turtle. There was going to be a Galapagos angle, a Darwin reference, a thoughtful paragraph about the slow patient wisdom of a creature that has been doing essentially nothing, beautifully, for two hundred years. We were going to make it educational. We were going to make you feel something about evolution while you shopped for a plant pot.

Then we looked at the turtle again and remembered that it is a turtle. It is shaped like a turtle. It holds a plant on its back the way a turtle would hold absolutely nothing, because turtles do not hold things, having neither the inclination nor the hands, but ours does, and that turns out to be the entire appeal. The plan was overthinking it. The turtle was right.

So here is the turtle, without the lecture. It is glazed ceramic, it wipes clean, and it keeps its shell indefinitely, which is more than most of us can say. There is no drainage hole, so it does best with a succulent or a small cactus, or as a cover pot for a nursery container you can lift out to water. It will sit on a windowsill and carry a plant with the unbothered patience that turtles have always had and we have always envied. You did not come here for a nature documentary. You came here for a turtle with a plant on its back, and that is exactly what this is.
